Valve just patched Half-Life… like, the original

Valve took a few minutes between Steam sales to update one of their older games. Half-Life, the original adventure of Gordon Freeman, has been patched.

Unless the patch notes are hiding some massive tease for Half-Life 3 somewhere in the game, this seems to be a pretty bland series of odd crashes and bugs reported by the community.

Here are the notes in their full glory.

We have updated the public release of Half-Life.

Changes in this update are:

  • Fixed crash when entering certain malformed strings into the game console. Thanks to Marshal Webb from BackConnect, Inc for reporting this.
  • Fixed crash when loading a specially crafted malformed BSP file. Thanks to Grant Hernandez (@Digital_Cold) for reporting this.
  • Fixed malformed SAV files allowing arbitrary files to be written into the game folder. Thanks to Vsevolod Saj for reporting this.
  • Fixed a crash when quickly changing weapons that are consumable. Thanks to Sam Vanheer for reporting this.
  • Fixed crash when setting custom decals

Are we set to see a wave of Half-Life news now? No, probably not. It is interesting that Valve took some resources and time to update a game that’s fast approaching 20 years old.
